Our adventure in beautiful Ötztal started in 2018 already when our friend Philipp Ribis invited us (Marco Fürst & Marco Waltenspiel) to the Open Faces Freeride World Cup to do a couple of demo jumps. We went there completely unknowing of how beautiful the Obergurgl Hochgurgl mountains are and how many possibilities they actually offer us. We then made two flybys at Hohe Mut restaurant, where the spectators are usually watching the freeriders. Right after our flybys everyone was so stoked about it that we went straight into planning our next year’s performance.

The idea for this year (2019) was to do the same demo flyby at Hohe Mut again – but this time just as a warm up 😉 Afterwards we wanted to fly next to and through below the gondolas in the ski resort.

So one year passed by and we couldn’t wait to get there again. Finally we made two demo flybys at Hohe Mut with the best weather you can imagine. Because nobody has done before what we have planned to do next, we spent two more days exploring the ski resort, measuring the area with google earth and skiing the possible lines we chose to fly. With this preparation we could get an idea of the angle of the terrain and all its obstacles to ensure the best safety.

Suddenly the weather god decided that we had to stay on the ground because of heavy snow fall for the rest of the week. But as we were so motivated and stoked about flying there, we decided to change our plans and postpone our project to the upcoming week. We were sure that at one point the weather would have get to be better than this. So one week later we came back to beautiful Gurgl, presenting itself from its best side. No wind, no clouds, a lot of snow and 10 degrees – perfect weather to fly down the mountain with our wingsuit!

We decided to fly down the north mountain line down the Festkogel and through below the Top Express gondolas back to Obergurgl. For the second line we chose to fly right next to the Festkogel gondolas.
